Edit product photos on a Mac or iPad

On a larger screen, Lightbox shows your library, the photo you are editing, and its tools side by side. It has the same tools as on iPhone, and the same library through iCloud Drive.

A sidebar, a grid, and an inspector

The sidebar lists All Photos, Unedited for the photos you have not edited yet, and your templates. When a batch leaves photos to review, it also lists Needs Attention. The grid shows the photos in the section you choose, and the inspector beside it acts on your selection.

Select one photo to see its size and its actions, such as Export, Copy Edits, and Save Look as Template. Select several to edit them together in the batch editor.

Open a photo, and its tools fill the inspector beside it, with the seven tools in a palette on top. The photo keeps the middle of the window while you switch tools. On iPad, a narrow Slide Over or Split View window uses the iPhone layout.

Select photos as in Finder

On the Mac, click a photo to select it, and Command-click or Shift-click to add to the selection. The arrow keys move the selection, Select All selects every photo in the section, and Delete deletes the selection after you confirm. Double-click a photo or press Return to open it.

Work in several windows

Choose Open in New Window from a photo’s title menu to edit it in a window of its own beside the library. Each window keeps its own selection and open photo. On the Mac, Settings is its own window.

The menu bar on a Mac, and on iPad with iPadOS 26 or later, has the library and editor commands. These keyboard shortcuts work on a Mac and on an iPad with a keyboard.

With keyboard focus on the photo in the editor, the arrow keys nudge the product and the plus and minus keys resize it. Hold Shift for larger steps.

Drag photos in and out

Drop photos or whole folders on the library to import them, up to 500 at a time. Drop them on a template in the sidebar to import them with its look. Drop an image on the photo in the editor to make it the background, or the logo while the Brand tool is open.

Drag a selection out to Finder, Files, or a marketplace’s upload page in your browser, and each photo arrives as a PNG file. On iPad, dragging several photos at once, and copying and pasting photos, need iPadOS 27.

See the brush before you paint

In Retouch and Edges, the brush’s size shows under the pointer before you start a stroke. On iPad, a hovering Apple Pencil shows it too.

Requirements

The iPad app needs iPadOS 18 or later, and the Mac app needs macOS 26.4 or later. Request beta access to try Lightbox on your Mac and iPad.
