Give the next photo a familiar layout
A saved layout can hold the choices you want to repeat. Lightbox’s templates bring the same background, spacing, and canvas shape to the next product you photograph.
Save the useful choices
Build a layout around one product, then choose Save Look as Template in the editor. Keep a plain listing template, a more expressive campaign layout, and a social format when each serves a different purpose.
Templates hold the background, canvas shape, placement, and adjustments, with text and logo elements for designs that need them. A template keeps its background and logo even after you delete the photo it came from. Your templates sync through iCloud Drive to your other devices.
Drop a shoot on a template
On a Mac or iPad, your templates are listed in the sidebar. Drop photos from Finder, Files, or Photos on a template, and each photo is imported, its background removed, and the template’s look applied. Drag photos from the grid onto a template to give them its look.
Select a template to open its page. It shows the look on a photo from your library and has a large drop area for a whole shoot, with buttons to choose photos from Photos, Files, or Finder.
On iPhone, apply a template from the Templates tool in the editor, or select several photos and choose it in the batch editor. See batch photo editing.
Use a template for new photos
Choose a template for new photos in Settings, or choose Use for New Photos on a template’s page. Every photo you import after that gets the template’s look as it arrives, on each of your devices. Choose None in Settings to import photos without a look.
Keep listing photos and campaign graphics separate
A price label or promotional heading may belong on a social post. It may be unsuitable for a marketplace listing photo. Maintain separate versions so the graphic you use for an announcement does not become the only image a buyer can inspect.
Leave a clean product photo without text in the set. Follow the destination’s image rules before adding any overlays. The eBay workflow explains an important case where promotional additions are not suitable.
Reuse the layout, then check the fit
A template built around a short jar may need adjustment for a tall bottle. Check the spacing around the product and the distance between the subject and any text. Long names should not overlap the item.
Choose a few repeatable backgrounds and text styles rather than a separate look for every photo. A consistent collection can still show the individual character of each product.
A repeatable workflow
Try the TestFlight beta with a layout you use often. Start with one listing template and one social format, then refine them as you work.
See social product photos and the Shopify image guide for ways to use a shared layout.
