Give your collection a consistent look

A Shopify collection page puts products side by side. A shared background and crop make that grid easier to scan, while the product page gives you room to show the details.

Choose one style for the featured image in a collection. Keep product scale and margins similar where it makes sense. Use the rest of the gallery to show alternate angles, material, packaging, and the item in use.

The featured image does not have to answer every question. It should make the product recognizable and lead naturally into the fuller set.

Build a repeatable starting layout

Lightbox’s templates and batch editor apply a shared canvas and background across a group of photos. Review tall, wide, and unusually shaped products separately after the shared settings are applied.

Keep a version without text overlays for the main product photo. A campaign banner may need a different composition and more space for a heading.

Check the store theme

As of September 18, 2026, Shopify recommends consistent aspect ratios for featured images displayed together. The exact presentation depends on the theme, so check both the collection grid and the product page on a phone. See Shopify’s product media documentation.

Read our Shopify image size guide for a practical export plan. Image dimensions and file size are separate choices.

Keep product information accurate

A generated background should not change the product’s finish, lettering, or dimensions. Use real detail photos where customers need to see how an item is made. Keep variant images connected to the correct option in your store.

The workflow ends with exporting files for you to upload through Shopify. Read beta access.
