Make the photo fit the place

A shop thumbnail and a vertical social post give your product different amounts of space. Lightbox’s image resizer can prepare those versions from one source photo.

Separate the crop from the size

The crop determines what fits inside the frame. Pixel dimensions determine how much image detail the file contains. You can make a square photo smaller without changing its composition, or change it to a vertical crop while keeping a large export.

The editor lets you choose the canvas shape, position the product, and set output dimensions. A custom size can be 64 to 4096 pixels on each side. Adding canvas around a cutout is useful when a tight source photo does not leave enough space for the new layout.

Keep the shape of the product

Stretching a picture to fit a rectangle changes the item’s proportions. A round plate becomes an oval and a shoe looks longer. Resize proportionally, then crop or add background to match the destination.

Leave room for handles, straps, and soft edges. For social graphics, keep text away from areas likely to be covered by interface controls. Preview the result in the destination app before publishing.

Match the collection

A shared aspect ratio gives a product grid a consistent rhythm. Also compare the apparent scale of the products. Matching pixel dimensions alone does not make a small centered object look like its larger neighbors.

Use the batch workflow to give a selection the same canvas. It changes only the canvas, so each product keeps its own placement. Then check the outliers individually.

Export with a purpose

Keep a high-quality original and create separate files for each destination. Enlarging a small image cannot recover details that were never recorded. Our resizing guide explains how to choose between cropping, padding, and a new source photo.
