Give handmade details room to show
The glaze on a mug, the weave of a scarf, and the finish on a small piece of furniture tell a buyer something a description cannot. Build your Etsy photo set around those details.
Plan the set before editing
Start with a clear view of the whole item. Add a closer view of the material, an angle that explains the shape, and a photo that gives useful scale. If there are variations, photograph the actual options instead of using an edit to invent a color or finish.
A clean background works well for the lead image. Supporting photos can show the item in a real setting, as long as the buyer can tell what is included in the sale.
Prepare a consistent lead image
Lightbox’s background remover and resizer help prepare a clear subject with room around the edges. Reuse a similar crop across a collection so the shop feels consistent.
Leave space for the different thumbnails Etsy may show. A handle or tassel that fits in your exported rectangle can still be clipped in a tighter preview.
Finish the background before uploading
As of September 18, 2026, Etsy’s image guidance says transparent areas in PNGs can appear black. Use a finished solid background for a listing when you need predictable results. Its recommendation is at least 2000 pixels in both dimensions. See Etsy’s image guidance and our Etsy photo size guide.
Check the actual listing
Preview the lead image in the listing and shop grid. Confirm that the product looks like the item you will ship, the scale is clear, and props cannot be mistaken for included accessories.
Export your finished images and upload them through Etsy. Read beta access and the iPhone photography guide to start improving your photos today.
