Photograph clothing so buyers can see the details
A useful clothing photo set shows the garment’s outline, material, construction, and condition. Choose a consistent main view, then use supporting photos to answer the questions that view cannot.
Choose flat lay, hanger, or worn photos
A flat lay gives you control over the outline on a simple surface. A hanger can show the garment’s length and natural drape. A real worn photo can communicate fit, but the person’s pose should not hide the shape of the item.
Pick the main view that fits the garment. A structured jacket and a flowing skirt may need different approaches. Keep the background and light consistent when photographing a collection.
Arrange the garment carefully
Smooth accidental folds and align the collar, sleeves, and hem. Avoid stretching the fabric just to make the silhouette more even. For a flat lay, keep the camera as parallel to the surface as practical so one part of the garment does not appear larger than another.
Leave space around the full outline. A strap or sleeve cut off in the original cannot be reliably restored by changing the background.
Capture a useful set
Start with the front and back. Add the brand and care labels, closures, lining, pockets, and a close view of fabric texture. For secondhand items, show wear, stains, or damage clearly.
When measurements matter, photograph a readable tape without pulling the material out of shape. Add the measurements to the listing text so the photo is not the only reference.
Edit the background carefully
Use Lightbox’s background remover when the original setting distracts from the garment. Inspect loose knit edges, thin ties, and gaps between sleeves and the body.
Check the garment’s color against the original and the physical item. A warmer background should not lead you to recolor the fabric just to match the composition.
Understand ghost mannequin images
A ghost mannequin view shows clothing with a worn shape while hiding the supporting figure. Photoroom’s ghost mannequin documentation describes generating such an image from a source photo, checked on September 18, 2026.
Lightbox edits still photos around your source image. It does not include ghost mannequin reconstruction or generated fashion models. If you need those, compare an editor that offers them and review the garment details carefully.
Review the collection
Look at the main images together for consistent crop and scale. Then open the detail views to check readability and condition. Use the batch editing guide for repeatable layout choices and request Lightbox beta access to try the workflow.
